Its former company is “Shanghai Coal Design Institute”, which was found in 1953 and was moved in Xuzhou named “East of China Coal Design & Research Institute” in 1964. In 1970, “Shandong Coal Design Institute” was organized in Shandong province and in 1986 its name was changed into “Coal Industry Jinan Design & Research Institute”, directly under the control of the former the Ministry of Coal Industry of China In 1998, the company was distributed to be managed by Shandong Province after the Ministry of Coal Industry was cancelled. In 2003, it was distributed to be managed by Shandong SASAC. In 2005, the institute began to reform after being approved by Shandong SASAC, all the state asset being moved out from the institute. In 2007, the reform was finished, with China General Technology (Group) Holding Limited holds the share of 51% and the staff holds the other 49%. On 27 June, 2007, “Coal Industry Jinan Design & Research Co., Ltd” was established under registration。

The company has professional technicians whose major covering nearly 30 fields: mining, mining construction, coalfield geology, ventilation safety, coal preparation, power supply, power distribution, mining mechanical and electrical, communications engineering, automation, machinery manufacturing, thermal power, mechanical maintenance, construction, structure, HVAC, water supply and drainage, master plan, highways, railways, bridges and culverts, economic cost, surveying, geotechnical engineering, computer and environmental protection, etc. Now, the company employs 271 personnel, among whom 93% are technicians (252 people), 24 engineering researchers, 69 people with senior qualification certificate, 52 people with intermediate qualification certificate, 77 people with national registered license qualification and 92 people with special items registered license qualification.

The company was awarded thirteen first-class qualification certificates: Engineering Consultancy; Coal Industry Design; Construction Industry Design, Intelligent Construction; Environmental Pollution Prevention Design; Engineering Project Supervision; Engineering Cost; Engineering Investigation; Measurement; Geotechnical Test; Safety Evaluation and Engineering Contracting. Besides, it also owns Design Certificates for municipal public industries and Electric power industry as well as mapping and consultancy qualification. In 2000, the company acquired overseas engineering contracting qualification and import & export business qualification, possessing the right for overseas engineering contracting, convey, design, consultancy, project supervision, import & export of equipment and materials, overseas labor services. Furthermore, the company has the honors like Coal Production Capacity Evaluation Certificate, Design License for Special Equipment (pressure containers and pressure pipes) authorized by the General Administration for Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, Technology and Trade License, the Qualification of Evaluation, Treatment, Survey for Geological Hazard, etc. The company has passed ISO 9001 Quality System Attestation.

With the help of government, society, brother companies and friends from all walks of life, the company has finished the general planning for mining areas of Xinwen, Feicheng, Longkou, Jining (the North), in Shandong Province, the development planning of Shandong Coal Industry and the strategies study for coal development in east of China region. Until now, the company has designed more than 150 middle and small sized mines, over 50 large-sized mines and 16 large-sized mine consulting projects (which is consigned by the Government and the annual outputs are over 4.0 Mt/a) totally accumulating 150 Mt/a in design and consulting design area In addition, the company has accomplished designing work for over 50 low hear value fuel power plants (6MW-135MW) and over 300 large-sized industrial and civilian constructions. The company has really contributed a lot for national coal industry, in particular to the development of the coal industry in Shandong Province.
